In school inspirational projects like IGNITE! and COGS are a key part of our work to inspire young students in education, but also to inspire local employers to take that first step in working with us to inspire young people.
Both projects cover a range of ages from Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 4.
A key project delivered by Inspired Youth are the IGNITE! Enterprise Days. These days revolve around students working in small teams creating business concepts and competing in dragons den style competitions. Local employers act as mentors to the students before acting as judges later in the day. An important part of the Enterprise Days is celebrating success. Instead of simply awarding a prize to the winning team, a range of awards have been created to encourage attitude, vision, initiative and creativity, as well as awareness on the impacts on the local environment. There are also awards to celebrate individual achievement especially where individuals have grown during the activity, and caught the eye of the mentors.
COGS Careers is a great project to help students understand some of the basics of applying for opportunities. COGS looks at careers events in a different way, choosing to identify the individual’s skills and abilities first through a self assessment exercise and then using those outcomes to guide them to conversations with organisations promoting these skills and interests. A COGS day will typically include looking at Skills, Goals, Opportunities and Careers, focussing on CVs, personal statements and practice interviews. As with all our projects, COGS is supported by local employers who share their knowledge and experience on recruitment and selection.
